Sidi Harazem Market Kiosks

Architecture

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, an electrical fire destroyed the informal market at the Sidi Harazem Thermal Bath Station. This left vendors who relied on commercial income at the market in desperate need of a temporary facility, until the construction of the new market by Aziza Chaouni Projects.

In collaboration with the vendors, ACP designed a series of triangular market stalls using OSB and other recycled wood. The stalls are designed to maximize each storefront, with folding doors that keep merchandise secure after hours. Canvas canopies form double roofs that promote a cooler microclimate in the water. The stalls themselves form a giant supergraphic based on motifs and fabrics used by J.F. Zevaco in the original hotel design. Various patterns were developed for water vendors, and other sellers to differentiate them visually while maintaining a cohesive visual identity for the site.
