Ifrane Craft Exhibition Hall

Architecture

ACP was selected through a competition entry by the Moroccan Ministry of Culture for the transformation of a vacant colonial era building into an exhibition hall to showcase local crafts and produce to visitors. The building is located in the center of the city of Ifrane, a town nestled in the Middle Atlas mountains at an elevation of 1,665 m.

The proposal was to preserve the original character of the existing building, and instead transform the interior space by removing all interior partitions and creating large openings on the facade towards the plaza adjacent to the building. Sliding walls and hanging tracks create a multitude of configurations in the now open space for exhibitions. The new Hall’s environmental performance is enhanced by adding insulation to the roof, using double glazed windows, creating large openings to the South and East, and utilizing brise soleil.
